About liquidations

What is a crypto liquidation?

A liquidation happens when an exchange force-closes a leveraged position because the trader's margin can no longer cover the loss. The position is closed at market price and the margin is lost.

What do long and short liquidations mean?

Long liquidations are forced closes of long positions when the price falls; short liquidations are forced closes of shorts when the price rises. A spike on one side often marks a local price extreme.

Where does this data come from?

All numbers are aggregated in real time from public liquidation feeds of major derivatives exchanges such as Binance, OKX, Bybit, Bitget, Gate and Hyperliquid. Nothing is estimated or simulated.

What is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin (BTC) is the world's first and largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization — a decentralized digital currency that runs on a peer-to-peer blockchain network without banks or a central authority. Its supply is capped at 21 million coins, and the Bitcoin price (currently around $76,404) is set purely by supply and demand on exchanges trading 24/7. Bitcoin is usually the single most-liquidated asset on this dashboard — the live totals above show how much BTC leverage was just wiped out.
